25 years and still going strong, Jack W.
Sarin Naval Architects, Inc. is a full service naval architect firm with a
long history of successful launches. In addition to hull design and
engineering, the firm provides a full range of interior and lighting design,
styling, and complete ship's system coordination during construction.
The man at the helm is Jack Sarin, a
well-known leader in the field of yacht design. Armed with a degree in
industrial design from the University of Washington, Jack headed south in
1965. He answered an ad, started work as a design draftsman for Stephens
Marine in California and never looked back. His career path was set, but the
pull of his native Bainbridge Island in the Pacific Northwest, however, proved
to be too strong and three years later, he moved back to join the firm of
Edwin Monk, Sr., one of the most prominent naval architects of the time. There
he gained invaluable experience designing commercial fishing vessels and
merchant ship projects.
In 1980, he launched his own design
firm. He became one of the leading experts on fiberglass construction and
successfully applied that knowledge to the industry-changing 98' Golden
Delicious launched in 1988. Fiberglass construction had now made the leap to
the yacht market and the world of custom motoryacht's would never be the same.
Hundreds of successful projects have followed, making Jack Sarin Naval
Architects a leader in the fiberglass yacht market.
Gene Cote is our senior
engineer/project manager and has been with the firm since 1987. Gene took a
two-year hiatus to sail the wide blue ocean, but returned in 1994. He is an
invaluable member of the Sarin crew and was the driving force behind the
successful launch of the 130' Mea Culpa.
The office has participated in the
design and construction of more than 400 vessels up to a length of 180 feet
(both commercial and for pleasure) of materials including steel, aluminum,
fiberglass and wood to various ship building rules, including American Bureau
of Shipping, MCA, U.S. Coast Guard, Lloyds of London, Nippon Kaiji Kyokai
(N.K.), and Bureau Veritas. The ability to combine hull design, styling,
engineering, and interior design all from one source has proven invaluable in
maintaining overall project coordination - essential when designing custom or
production yachts.
